Sunday @ Ballycotton.
A small fishing village with not much there. We are rafted alongside some fishing trawlers and lobster pot fishers. There are 6 visitor moorings outside to the NW of the harbour, but with a NE blowing straight in to them they weren't comfortable. People keep driving down to the harbour to have a look and then drive away again, it only seems to be popular with people fishing off the wall. We arrived about 4pm and while the other 2 were messing about on the boat I went for a walk to see what was in Ballycotton. Two cars stopped to ask me directions. The first wanted to know where they could get something to eat to which I obviously didn't know. She drove away and the second car pulled up and dropped his window. Could I tell them where the Bay View Hotel was? I replied that I was sorry I couldn't. He then asked where was the main steet to which I replied with a wry smile that I think he had just drove through it. In the evening we went up to the pub, The Inn by the Harbour. It didn't look much from outside and it looked empty, but there were 4 other people in there if you count the barman, but by 9.30 the pub was very near full. We were kept amused by a local who is in charge of the local coastguard team. He was a nice guy and gave Ieuan some bits and peices of Coastguard stuff like pencils and rubbers, etc. Our new mate said that there were 3 other pubs in the village but they were a taxi ride away and at 10.30 (Sunday evening) that's where he was off to.
Would I stop there again. Yes I would, it was a cracking little pub.
