Berthing fees to home

We left Ballycotton on the Bank Holiday Monday and headed for Cork. It was a bit chilly, as you can probably tell from the photo of Ieuan at the helm. We're actually staying at the Royal Cork Yacht Club at Crosshaven which is reputedly the oldest yacht club, founded in 1720. Crosshaven is a village sutuated on the estuary of the picturesque Owenboy river. Legend has it that in 1580 Sir Francis Drake, pursued by the Spanish took refuge just up the river. not aware of his location the Spaniards sailed uo to Cork, and down again empty handed, and left without having found their prey. Today the place were Drake sought refuge is known as Drakes pool. this evening we are going to leave the RCYC marina and drop anchor in Drakes Pool for the night before heading on tomorrow towards Kinsale.

There's not much really in Crosshaven except hundreds of boats. Tuesday we took a bike ride out around the coast, some beautiful views and lots of nice houses. We went out to Church Bay, Ballinluska and Myrtleville before heading for Carrigalne to pick up the cycle track which runs alongside the Owenboy river and hence back to Crosshaven.

The Royal Cork Yacht Club entrance. Nice club but as usual with the exception of some old folk next door playing bridge we were the only ones in there on Tuesday evening.
