Dingle Sunday 23 May.

Monday was a scorcher of a day. We strolled around the town seeing what it has to offer and getting some laundry done. It's a great little town and a busy fishing port with many French and Spanish trawlers calling to drop off their catches which are then picked up by French or Spanish lorries and taken all the way back on the Cork to Roscoff ferries.

We went out Monday evening to sample some of the pubs. Not difficult for a small town with reputedly 52 pubs. Dingle still has 2 of the traditional style pubs remaining, Dick Macks in Green Street opposite the church and Foxy Johns in the Main Street.

Dick Macks is a pub today but used to also be a leather belt and shoe business. The window still displays the goods and as you enter the pub on your left is the old belt and shoe shop, and on the right the bar.

Ieuan and Dee are sat behind the belt and shoe counter.

Foxy Johns is a pub but also still today a bike hire and hardware store.

The hardware store is on your right as your enter and the pub on your left.

Wednesday 26 May is National Fish and Chips Day to celebrate the opening of the first fish and chip shop in Ireland 125 years ago. Apparently they will be half price. We had a lazy day today with a round of pitch and put in the afternoon before leaving for Ventry Habour7.5nm away where we picked up a visitor mooring for the night before plodding on our way Thursday.

Statue of Fungie. Dingle has its own dolphin which has been wowing everyone since 1984 by greeting them as they enter the harbour.

When we arrived on Sunday the estuary entrance was busy with local boats, tourist boats and trawlers going out, so we didn't notice Fungie until it was too late. We had read about him but couldn't beleive that a bottled nose dolphin would live in the same place since 1984. We left Dingle Wednesday evening and as we left the entrance to the estuary there was only one tourist boat and us and we saw Fungie. Yes! When I get chance I'll upload the video of him swimming alongside the boat.

As there was no wind the trip from Portmagee to Dingle was layed back and relaxed.  So with nothing better to do we were whale spoting. We spotted more than 6 whales as they surfaced and dived again. no a very good picture I know. I'll try and do better next time.
